Nostalgia....

Nostalgia…

Why do people stick to the past?
Why do we want to live in the “old days”?
Why does the past seduce us more than the present or the future sometimes?
Why do we want to “back to the past” instead of looking forward?
Why are we so nostalgic?

According to Wikipedia, “Nostalgia” is a bittersweet feeling for the things of the past.
Is it true that every past time was better? Who knows? It might be better sometimes but…it might be worse sometimes, too.

Nostalgia is related with the past in an idealized way. Ideal, idealist, idyllic. This is the key word. It is said that nostalgia is like a grammar lesson: you find the present tense, but the past perfect. However, was the past really “perfect”?

We always want to come back to that people, place or time in which we felt happy. We forget every mistake, fault or error made in the past and we only keep the good memory. “Nothing is more responsible for the good old days than a bad memory” is a popular quote. However, we are nostalgic when we have the fear that there is no chance of its feeling coming back.

On the other hand, it’s true that we can’t have a better tomorrow if we are thinking about about the past all the time.

It’s no bad to be nostalgic providing that you never forget that “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is mystery, but today is a GIFT”.

Better times will come if you attract them.
